According to reports, it has been 363 days since former Ohio SWAR deputy Jason Meade shot and killed Casey Goodson Jr. According to reports, Casey approached his grandmother’s house with a bag of Subway in her hand, and Mead fired six shots at him from behind. According to reports, when Mead approached Casey Goodson, he was completing an unsuccessful search for the fugitive. However, U.S. Marshal Peter Tobin confirmed that Goodson was not the subject of the search, and Meade “didn’t perform the mission” when the shooting occurred.
Mead’s lawyer issued a statement detailing his description of the shooting. According to Mead, he allegedly started following Goodson after seeing Goodson pointing a gun at another driver. Mead claimed that Goodson “wielded the gun irregularly” and eventually pointed it at him. The statement stated that Mead followed Goodson on foot. He was holding a gun in one hand and a plastic bag in the other. Mead opened fire after Goodson refused to put down his weapon.
Unfortunately, the shooting was not recorded on the body or the dash cam lens.
Goodson’s mother, Tamala Payne, said she was satisfied with Thursday’s prosecution.
“This is a sad year, this is a sad year, this is a painful year,” she said. “But I know that every day this year, my family and I wake up and fight for the right thing.”
Before the prosecution, Sergeant Darass Baldwin stated that he would not take disciplinary action against Mead until the criminal investigation was completed, claiming that Goodson’s autopsy did not “provide all the necessary facts”.
Mead was charged with two counts of murder and one count of reckless homicide.
