As a former Olympic champion imparting his knowledge to aspiring swimmers in the UAE, Anthony Ervin always gives back in his heart

After auctioning his Olympic gold medal for 17 years to help raise funds for tsunami victims, former swimmer Anthony Owen hopes that he will compete with some aspiring swimmers in the UAE at the Abu Dhabi FINA World Swimming Championships (25 million). Interaction can motivate them to realize their ambitions.

The 40-year-old and the German Olympic champion Florian Wellbrock (Florian Wellbrock) in the unique training clinic of Yas Island Etihad Arena shared with Americans key tips and advice to the nation’s rising stars.

Giving back has always been Ervin’s motto. He auctioned off the 50 million gold medals he won at the Sydney Olympics for $17,100 to help raise funds for the people who struck Sumatra, Indonesia by the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004.

In Abu Dhabi, he devoted his energy and time to imparting his knowledge-he hopes that this experience will have a significant impact on the development of the children.

“They are too small and easily affected. As athletes, we have been swimming for a long time, so if I can pass on anything for them to enjoy, be grateful and express themselves in the water, then I will be very happy,” Owen said. He made history at the 2016 Rio Olympics. At the age of 35, he became the oldest gold medalist in the Olympic 50m freestyle and 4x100m freestyle relay.

He added: “The advantage of pursuing the Olympics or swimming at such a high level is that you can focus on yourself. I have many experiences like this now. I think it’s time to give back to those who have helped me. This is The reason why I give back to the children.”

The American was impressed by what he had seen and heard so far-both in and out of the pool, and believed that with the emergence of talented stars, the future of the sport is bright.

He said: “The hospitality of Abu Dhabi is incredible, the facilities are great, and I like it. I fully agree with the concept of the water sports festival. Seeing high-altitude diving and open water swimming in one place is just like the Olympic Games. People excited.

My ancestry is pool swimming, so I will watch the game in the final and see what happens. The world record set by Siobhan Haughey is incredible. I have been training with her for a while before the pandemic broke out. I know how much she desires to succeed. She won the silver medal in the Olympics, but she is still not satisfied. So for her, it is special to execute and obtain a world record. Together with many other people who are coming, I think the future development of this sport is very good. “
