Wow! Although some of you are hoping for another pandemic shutdown to get those stimulating checks and unemployment benefits again, the Secret Service is running their fraudulent numbers and they are working hard to get the stolen coins back!
according to Associated PressSince the beginning of the pandemic, nearly $100 billion has been stolen from the COVID-19 relief program. The Secret Service announced that the Department of Labor and the Small Business Administration have been collecting data from programs designed to help small businesses and those unemployed due to the pandemic, and found that 3% of the dispersed $3.4 trillion was fraudulent.
The Department of Labor reported that most of the stolen funds came from unemployment fraud, of which approximately $87 billion was “improperly” paid to people.
In order to retrieve some of the funds, the Secret Service is hiring senior official Roy Dotson (Roy Dotson), who will work with major banks to recover the stolen funds. He will also work with the Ministry of Justice to help combat crooks.
Dothan told CNN that the goal is to “maximize the impact of our investigation” and “recover as much as possible.” He also pointed out that the Secret Service has helped return more than $2.3 billion in funds and arrested 100 people in the process.
The CARES Act is a US$2 trillion coronavirus relief program enacted in March 2020, bringing unemployment benefits to millions of people. Unfortunately, according to former FBI analyst Crane Hassold, scammers also took advantage of the bill.
“Using platforms such as Telegram or WhatsApp, scammers publicly share techniques and best practices on how to most effectively submit claims related to the fraudulent epidemic on the subject,” Hasold told CNN.
The Secret Service is seeking to prosecute thousands of people who submitted fraudulent documents with pandemic funds.
