The prosecutor argued that between 1994 and 2004, Gislain and Jeffrey conspired in several states, including New York, Florida, New Mexico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, to plot to induce young girls to have sex with him. Four women testified that Jeffrey abused them during the trial, and Gislain facilitated the abuse. In addition, she participates in abuse from time to time. Ghislaine’s defense team denied these claims and said she was a “scapegoat” for Jeffrey’s actions. The defense also attacked the memories and motives of women who said they had been sexually abused.
According to reports, when the court read the verdict, Gislain did not respond. U.S. Attorney Damian Williams talked about Gislain’s ruling in a statement. “The road to justice is too long. But today, justice is done,” he said. He continued: “I want to commend the girls who walked out of the shadows and walked into the courtroom-now adult women-for their bravery. Their courage and willingness to face the abuser made this case and today’s result possible.” Currently, Judge Alison Nathan has not set a date for the sentencing of Gislain, and she faces two pending charges of perjury related to civil testimony in 2016.
