Abu Dhabi Maritime is the regulator of all Abu Dhabi waterways and marine ecosystems and is responsible for all ferry services within Abu Dhabi’s waterways.

The organisation, part of AD Ports Group, under the direction of the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), integrates the ferry operations of the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) within its scope of services. The move will allow Abu Dhabi Maritime to manage and oversee the day-to-day operations of the emirate’s two main ferry routes – the Dalma Island water transport service connecting Dalma Island and Jebel Dana Port, and the Al Aliah Island Water Transport service connecting Al Aliah Transportation Services Island and Saadiyat Island. This shift is in line with Abu Dhabi Maritime’s mission to position Abu Dhabi as a top global maritime hub by developing user-friendly regulation, advanced infrastructure and world-class services.

As part of its new responsibilities, the organisation will also drive development in several key business areas related to ferry operations. This includes creating new infrastructure such as ferry terminals, acquiring vessels, enhancing workforce capabilities, facilitating third-party contractor relationships and leading the digitization of Abu Dhabi’s ferry services.

Hamad Al-Mutawa, Executive Director of DMT Planning and Infrastructure Division“This integration is part of DMT’s long-term plan to realise our leadership’s vision to build our emirate into a top global maritime centre with streamlined ultra-modern services and the highest standard infrastructure.

He added: “This move will also support the further development of maritime transport infrastructure to serve a growing number of ferry users and ensure a smoother experience for all commuters. It will also continue to drive more tourists, support Economic development and safe, comfortable and reliable travel options for UAE residents and tourists.”

Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, Group Chief Executive Officer, AD Ports Groupsaid: “Consolidating the ferry operations under a single entity focused on developing Abu Dhabi’s maritime sector will help achieve our government’s vision of positioning our emirate as a global maritime hub.

“Providing world-class ferry services for both vehicles and passengers is the hallmark of a developed maritime capital, and the transformation will explore all that our maritime domain has to offer by enhancing the user experience and further engaging local and global communities.”

Captain Saif Al Mheiri, Managing Director, AD Ports Group Abu Dhabi Maritime, “The transfer of all ferry services within Abu Dhabi’s maritime jurisdiction marks another critical step in our organisation’s efforts to consolidate all relevant water transport services under one umbrella.

Our user base and the wider maritime community can rest assured that the transition is seamless, allowing us to Working together to further enhance services and drive the expansion of the ferry network.”

In addition to optimising operations and achieving new levels of efficiency in all ferry-related activities, Abu Dhabi Maritime aims to further enrich the user experience through innovation and digitalisation. Part of this will include the adoption of an online digital ticketing solution, as well as integration with other related water services.

Since its inception in 2020, the organization has been committed to promoting ultra-modern infrastructure and world-class services by fostering a regulatory environment based on industry-leading practices.
