Arab Aviation Summit 2022 – Lipstick And Luggage
Meeting His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.

The 2022 Arab Aviation Summit (AAS), the region’s leading aviation industry event, was held in Ras Al Khaimah on Feb. 28 & March 1, 2022 at Al Hamra International Exhibition & Conference Centre. Organized by PLM Middle East, the ninth edition of the Summit brought together executives and global experts in the aviation and tourism sectors under the theme “roadmap to recovery”, to discuss the impact of the pandemic on the industry, the aftermath, and the future economic outlook.

Endorsed by Arab Governments and previously held in many Arab counties, the 2022 edition of the Arab Aviation Summit was hosted in collaboration with Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAK TDA) and supported by global industry partners Airbus, Air Arabia, CFM, Ras Al Khaimah International Aiport, Turkish Technic, Colin Aerospace, and others.

Keynote speakers included: Maen Razouqi, Chief Executive of Kuwait Airways, Adel Al Ali, Group Chief Executive of Air Arabia, Mikail Houari, President of Africa & Middle East, Airbus, Athanasios Titonis, Chief Executive of Ras Al Khaimah International Airport, Kamil Al -Awadhi, Regional Vice President Africa & Middle East at IATA, and Kuljit Ghata-Aura, President of Boeing Middle East, Turkey, and Africa.

Topics of discussion ranged from the role aviation and tourism have played during this post-pandemic period of economic recovery, to the contribution of these sectors to both international and domestic economies, and how they have affected the narrative of the Middle East and North Africa ( MENA) region. A series of panels also evaluated the challenges and opportunities faced by the aviation sector and shared ideas and strategies to address them in the coming months as the industry begins to gain traction with the opening of international borders and the lessening of pandemic- related restrictions.

Raki Phillips, Chief Executive Officer, Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority, commented on how the emirate has begun readying itself for a brighter future with global investment increasing in the region.

Frederico Fernandes, Project Manager, PLM Middle East and Event Director, Arab Aviation Summit, echoed similar sentiments, stressing that these sectors have gained a tremendous amount of traction in the last few months and that the Summit was a means of generating a dialogue between industry stakeholders to develop a roadmap for recovery of the region.

As a Mentor at Intelak Hub, I had the pleasure of meeting His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, and presenting our programs that assist early and late-stage start-ups to launch, grow and scale their businesses in the region.

Hailed as the “voice of the industry”, #AAS22 marks the partnership of several key players in the travel and tourism industry, namely: the public sector, private sector, and media. Organized annually, the event highlights the trends, insights, and opportunities driving the continuous growth and development of the Arab aviation and tourism industry.
