The Future and The Way of the Maverick Some Insights from Mido Chishty

Mido Chishty is the CEO and CMO of Your Marketing Chief (YMC). He is a visionary business and marketing leader who puts immense focus on innovation and business solutions. As a maverick he challenges the status quo and drives businesses to success through innovative marketing solutions.

Mido Chishty started YMC to lead organizations into the future. Those organizations become highly innovative, marketing-driven, and successful in digital transformation. The company understands future global projections and hence we will see more CMO’s take on the CEO mantle as the days of having only a finance background to helm the CEO title are over. It is marketing that is the voice of the consumer and customer and it is marketing leads in sustainability, big data, equity and company purpose. It is now marketing that influences the board, shareholders and the industry. Don’t be surprised if we see the CEMO title emerging (Chief Executive and Marketing Officer). It’s a new world out there and only those ready for change will emerge victorious.

During our interview with Mr. Mido Chishty, we got to know much more than this. Let’s check out what his goals and the business journey is about.

Tell us about your background?

Well, let me start by saying that I am a solutions-focused CEO and CMO with more than 20 years of success in multinationals and start-ups. As a maverick, I bring thought and cultural change to organizations. I have worked across consumer goods, tech, fintech, agri-tech, esports, retail, telecoms, financial services, gaming, entertainment, and tourism. My broad areas of expertise include leadership, marketing, inclusive team building, digital transformation, innovation, sustainability strategy, Big Data, AI, Blockchain, and the Metaverse.

Holding a leadership position as the CEO and CMO of YMC, I was brought on to apply FMCG (CPG) best marketing practices across a number of businesses and industries. I engineered the FUZN™ (pronounced fusion) marketing system and applied this across several industries and businesses, transforming organizations to be marketing, digital, and innovation-driven. Having worked and studied with different organizations and their ’schools of marketing’ I was able to combine the learnings and form my own superior style.

I earned a Masters in Business & Marketing from Brunel University Business School and a Bachelors (Honors) in Economics, Marketing & Management from the University of Manchester, UK. I am a chartered marketer, certified marketer, and certified digital marketer. In addition, I also attended executive programs with top schools, including Stanford GSB, Harvard Business School, USC Marshall, UCLA, UCI, INSEAD, IMD, IESE and UC Berkeley Haas. In addition, I am an active member of key leadership and marketing bodies, including CIM, AMA, DMI, and GCC BDI.

What goals have you set for yourself?

Well, I have actually been inspired by some of the places I have lived, which have impacted my goals. In fact, California, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) have inspired me the most. The economy of the State of California is the largest in the USA, estimated at around +$3.0 trillion. If the state were a stand-alone country, it would rank as the world’s 5th largest economy.

It is the innovative spirit of Cali, as we call it, and out of the box way of doing things that have created new industries, companies, and innovative hubs such as Silicon Valley. I love bringing those ideas to the GCC and witnessing the rapid change the region is undergoing.

The timing is perfect. HRH MBR has put Dubai on the world map with iconic projects such as Burj Khalifa, Burj Arab, the Palm, and Expo 2020, showcasing world-class Dubai. In addition, HRH MBZ has ensured that the UAE and Abu Dhabi shine as a beacon of stability for the region and world.

To add to that, we are also witnessing HRH MBS’s vision to transform KSA with futuristic projects such as NEOM. It is really an exciting time to marry the Californian spirit with the innovative leadership in the region. It is truly maverick. This inspired me to create Your Marketing Chief (YMC) to bring the highest level of marketing and leadership to a region most deserving of it. That is the core strength of the company. I am embedded into organizations as CMO so that they emerge successfully and grow aggressively.

Tell Us About Your Values?

I hold to 5 values as a CEO and CMO.

  1. Growth is Key – Businesses can only continue to be successful if they grow. Growth enables investment and fuels innovation. That is called success.
  2. Culture is King – Businesses must learn from and embrace different marketing cultures to grow. Marketing cultures from top-tier multinationals blended together offer inspirational ways to achieve growth.
  3. Real Leadership – In order to grow in business, we must be true and real to ourselves and others. Only by being real can a business achieve sustainable growth.
  4. Innovative Ways – Innovation is key to driving business growth. Reviving and renewing old ways of doing things and creating new ways is essential. The use of technology is also key to driving continual growth in a Blue Ocean way.
  5. Achieve Balance – Achieving a healthy balance in all aspects of business is essential for optimal growth.
