As part of its 19th edition held under the theme ‘Crafting the Emirates State of Mind: Creation, Innovation and Joy’Abu Dhabi Festival’, Abu Dhabi Festival and the American Ballet Theatre (ABT), one of the greatest dance companies in the world, present the world premiereZigZig, performed to the iconic music of Tony Bennet between March 15th-20th, 2022 at Segerstrom Center for the Performing Arts, California, followed by shows on March 29th-30th, 2022 at Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.
HE Huda Ibrahim Al Khamis, Founder of the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation and the Artistic Director of Abu Dhabi Festival said: “Abu Dhabi Festival is pleased to give audience members the opportunity to experience the magic and wonder of the American Ballet Theatre’s gala performance, ZigZag, celebrating the legendary career of Tony Bennett. It is truly remarkable to witness the creative process of the unique collaboration between dance and music come together on stage and its presentation at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in California advances our mission to bring original works of the performing arts to audiences around the world”.
Featuring choreography by renowned choreographer Jessica Lang, the scenery designed by Emmy- and Tony-award winner Derek McLane, and costume design by the Creative Director at Carolina Herrera, Wes Gordon, the marvellous performance celebrates the brilliant career of singing icon Tony Bennet, integrating his impressive tunes and artworks to shed light on the wholehearted human nature of his unique singing style.

The 19th edition of Abu Dhabi Festival 2022 is held under the theme “Crafting an Emirates State of Mind: Creation, Innovation & Joy’, is being held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha ShamsaBint Hamdan Al Nahyan, Assistant to His Highness the President of the Authority for Women’s Affairs, and Chairperson of the Higher Committee for Ataya Initiative, with support from its lead partner Mubadala Investment Company (Mubadala) and energy partner GS Energy.
The 2022 Abu Dhabi Festival programme is part of the contribution that the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation makes to the UAE capital’s designation as a UNESCO City of Music, further bolstering its role as a world leading musical center and incubator of an innovation-based resilient and sustainable music ecosystem. Abu Dhabi Festival 2022 encompasses over 1,000 participating artists from around the world to present more than 300 live and digital events. The 19th edition will also include two world tours and 17 world premiers.
