Tokyo Olympics: Sanya-Ankita combination eliminated in the first round-News

[ad_1]

The Indian team Sanya Mirza and Ankita Reina were eliminated in the first round of the women’s doubles event at the Tokyo Olympics.

Sania and Ankita lost to Ukraine’s Kichenok twins Lyudmyla and Nadiia 0-6, 7-6(0) 10-8 at Ariake Tennis Park on Sunday, thus ending their campaign early. Sarnia and Ankita firmly controlled the game midway, but allowed the Ukrainians to make a comeback and eventually escaped in the game.

The Indian pair won the first set 6-0 in 21 minutes, leaving no room for the sisters to break through. Before the script turned, Sarnia and Ankita led 5-3 in the second set. The Ukrainians fought back by breaking Sania, who was serving, and brought the game into the tie-break. What is impressive is that they won 7-0, forcing the third set of the tiebreaker.

In the super deciding game, Sania and Ankita seemed very shaken when they were behind 0-8. But the Indian duo fought back and tied the score with an 8-8 score.

The Kichenok twins prevented Sania and Ankita from escaping during the game. The sisters scored the last two points and won the super decisive game 10-8. In this way, the game is also won.

With the premature withdrawal of Sania and Ankita, Sumit Nagal is now India’s only tennis hope in the Tokyo Olympics. After defeating Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan in the first round, Nagar will face the world’s second-ranked Republic of China player Daniel Medvedev in the second round.
