The Chinese company recently surpassed Apple to become the world’s second-largest smartphone supplier.
Xiaomi plans to set up its assembly plant in Pakistan in the next 3-4 months.
This development happened shortly after Realme, another Chinese smartphone manufacturer, announced the establishment of a smartphone manufacturing plant in Lahore.
This resulted in a significant price cut for the brand’s smartphone model (C21) produced in the country. If Xiaomi succeeds in establishing its own assembly plant in Pakistan, similar results can be expected in terms of the company’s smartphone prices.
Realme has already conducted a trial run of the assembly line in Lahore, which has led to a substantial drop in the price of Realme phones, such as the price of the new C21.
Sherry Dong, Marketing Director of Realme Southeast Asia, South Asia and Latin America, revealed this. Both Xiaomi and Realme aim to produce smartphones and other artificial intelligence Internet of Things (AIoT) products at local assembly plants in South Asian countries.
Affordable products are the hallmark of the two companies. Since Pakistan is a developing country with a large young population, the establishment of a local mobile assembly unit is expected to have a positive socio-economic impact.
It is worth noting that Pakistan, with more than 40 million users, is the seventh largest importer of mobile phones in the world. Therefore, local manufacturing will also save foreign exchange for mobile phone imports.
Local production of smartphones has saved the company from paying huge import duties, which have also increased by 240% after the 2021-26 budget.
According to global analysis company Canalys, China Economic Net (CEN) reported that Xiaomi has become the world’s second-largest smartphone supplier after Samsung, surpassing Apple in the second quarter of 2021.
According to Canalys data, shipments in the quarter increased by 83% year-on-year, reaching a global market share of 17%.
If this level of growth continues to develop at the current rate, the China-based technology giant may soon surpass Samsung like Apple beats Apple and become the world’s largest smartphone supplier by the end of this year.
Canalys also reported on Pakistan’s top smartphone suppliers in the first quarter of 2021, including Transsion, ranked first, Vivo ranked second, Samsung ranked third, Oppo ranked fourth, and Xiaomi ranked fifth.
It is worth mentioning that several other smartphone manufacturers have set up assembly plants in Pakistan. These brands include Tecno, Infinix, Gfive and Realme.
