India: Congress leader says it proposes to increase the number of people in the House of People to 1,000-News

The last time a seat was added was in 1977, when the country’s population was 550 million.

Congress leader Manish Tewari claimed on Sunday that there was a proposal to increase the number of people in the People’s Chamber to 1,000 or more, and to solicit public opinion before implementation.

His speech was delivered during the ongoing construction work of the Central Vista project.

“The Bharatiya Janata Party’s parliamentary colleagues reliably told me that someone proposed to increase the number of Lok Sabha to 1,000 or more by 2024. A new parliamentary chamber is under construction and can accommodate 1,000 seats. Before that, it should be There is a serious public consultation,” Manish Tewari wrote on Twitter.

“The job of members of parliament is to make laws for the country. The 10th timetable of the Indian Constitution weakens this role. In order to meet the needs of development, we have Article 73 and Article 74 constitutional amendments, with the Legislative Assembly topping the list. If the proposal to increase LS to 1,000 is true, it will have an impact,” Tewari further wrote.

“I don’t know whether it’s correct or not, the proposal/idea includes 1/3 of women’s reservations. Great move, but why 1/3 of 1,000 or more why not 543 CP Smt Sonia Gandhi has been fighting for more than two decades. Women are 50%, but the 1,000-member council has its own influence,” he said.

“There needs to be an open debate. A large country like ours needs more directly elected representatives. But if the increase is based on population, it will further reduce the representation of the southern states, which is unacceptable,” said Katic, a senior congressional leader. Dambaram said a tweet.

Previously, on December 16, 2019, in order to promote the Modi government’s plan to increase the number of seats in the House of Commons through delimitation, former President Pranabu Mukherjee advocated increasing the number of seats in the House of Commons to 1,000.

Mukherjee emphasized the need for more Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha deputies. He said that the last time the lower house of parliament was increased was in 1977, when the country’s population was 550 million.

Up to now, the number of people approved by the Indian Parliament is 543, plus two members from the Anglo-Indian community.
