Abu Dhabi Arts Festival’s Riwaq Al Adab Wal Kitab returns to Abu Dhabi International Book Fair

as part of 19th The Abu Dhabi Music Festival, under the theme ‘Building the UAE Mindset: Creativity, Innovation and Joy’, the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation (ADMAF) has launched 7th The Riwaq Al Adab Wal Kitab programme is being launched at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair from 23-29 May 2022 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). The programme aims to showcase the achievements of Emirati and Arab creative writers by nurturing and supporting the UAE publishing industry. This year, the programme is working with local publishers Dar Nabati, Hamaleel and the UAE Writers Union to publish 14 books by Emirati writers and poets, along with a series of engaging events including book signings, lectures and workshops.

The new edition of Riwaq Al Adab Wal Kitab 2022 includes the following 7 female authors, 5 male authors and a collaborative Arabic literature publication: Layla Mohammad Ali Al Farisi, Afnan Mohammad Al Hamady, Yousef Ali Al Adan, Hamda Hasan Al Hamadi, Jame ‘e Al Dhanani, Suroor Khalifa Al Kaabi, Fatima Nasir, Aysha Al Zaabi, Dr Maryam Al Hashemi, DrAysha Al Ghais, Asma Al Kalbani and Nasser Jubran.

This year, the programme will also celebrate the tenth anniversary of the death of the late Emirati poet Ahmad Rashid Thani, one of the foremost pioneers of Emirati prose poetry. The Dhabi Foundation for Music and Arts has signed an agreement with the Abu Dhabi Foundation for Music and Arts. The UAE Writers’ Union publishes a narrative biography of the legendary poet. Kawaach will also lead a workshop with poet Ahmed Al Assim on “The Fundamentals of Creative Writing” on the literary skills needed to write short and very short stories, fiction, non-fiction and poetry, and another workshop titled “The Basics,” Children’s Stories, in collaboration with author Dr. Basma Younes, to explore how to develop plot, write narrative and shape stories that spark children’s imaginations in children of all ages.
