No deaths from the virus were recorded on Saturday, keeping the UAE’s total death toll from COVID-19 at 2,317.
At least 1,727 patients have recovered in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries from COVID-19 to 929,516.
On June 13, the U.S. National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Agency (NCEMA) announced that it would strictly enforce Its mask rules – penalizing those who flout the agreement – and announced it will tighten rules on the Al Hosn green pass system amid rising coronavirus cases across the country.
NCEMA said it recently “monitored a number of behaviours that pose a threat to society and public health”, referring to people’s non-compliance with COVID-19 prevention and precautionary measures and how it has “negatively” impacted recovery efforts.
“Inattention and recklessness in taking preventive measures, as well as failure to play a social role in maintaining public health and acquired immunity, have led to increased infections and a new wave of the virus,” an authority spokesman said in a briefing.
Authorities have reiterated the need to wear masks in closed public spaces and reiterated that it is mandatory and that failure to comply will result in fines of up to $816 (Dh3,000).
More than 4.1 million cases were reported globally last week, according to the World Health Organization.
However, it added that the global death toll remained relatively similar to the previous week at around 8,500, noting that COVID-related deaths increased in three regions: the Middle East, Southeast Asia and the Americas.
