Kuwait, UAE express condolences to Iran over earthquake

TEHRAN – Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates expressed their condolences to Iran over the earthquake that struck Iran’s southern Hormozgan province.

According to the Kuwait Times, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait expressed its sincere condolences to the Iranian leaders, government and people, and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

A series of earthquakes of magnitude 5.9, 6.1 and 6.3 hit Hormozgan on Saturday, killing five people and injuring dozens more.

The earthquake occurred at 2:02 a.m. local time at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the Iranian Seismological Center.

After the first 6.1 quake, another 6.1 quake and a 5.9 quake occurred. There were more than ten aftershocks.

The incident cut power lines to about 30 villages and 2,500 homes in the region.
