Pakistan’s fast-growing province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) on Wednesday announced the launch of the country’s first digital city, Pakistan Digital City, to accelerate the country’s digital transformation and facilitate the development of information technology.

The newly launched digital city is located close to the Islamabad Capital Region and the new Islamabad International Airport. The latest digital plan from the KPK government is to provide 10-year exemption from duties, taxes and general sales tax.

The KPK Board of Investment and Trade (KPK BoIT) signed four MoUs during Expo 2020 Dubai. Earlier, the KPK government signed 44 deals worth $8 billion at an investment conference in Dubai that will transform the province into an investment and trade hub for the region.

Atif Khan, Minister of Science and Technology of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, said that KPK is one of the largest districts in the country and we aim to make it a global commercial and investment center. Helps reduce red tape and lengthy procedures for a smart ecosystem.

“The shift to e-government will bring transparency and efficiency and bring us closer to the dream we all have of our glorious Pakistan. The new generation must seize the opportunity to express themselves and explore the opportunities unleashed by our new achievements in IT , opening the door to a brighter future,” Khan said in a statement to Khaleej Times on Wednesday.

KPK is witnessing a new dawn of digital transformation in government and the private sector. The province has been focused on supporting regulations, strengthening institutions, and improving the region’s capabilities in digital access, digital governance, digital economy and digital skills.

One Window Policy

Ali Mahmoud, Managing Director of KPK IT Committee, said Pakistan Digital City is enabling systematic digital transformation in the province by leveraging information and communication technologies to create jobs, connectivity, empowerment and inclusive economic growth.

“The Single Window policy initiated by the KPK government has received a huge response and has become a key driver in attracting tangible investment in the region,” he said.

Build an integrated ecosystem

Hassan Daud Butt, CEO of KPK BOIT, said the provincial government is working tirelessly to build a comprehensive ecosystem in the country to encourage businesses and investors to relocate to the country.

“The Minister of IT, in collaboration with the KP government, established the Special Technology Zone Authority to support youth, freelancers and tech businesses to thrive under the infrastructure provided,” he said.

“We have over 20,000 IT graduates and engineers every year, and our goal is to create ample employment opportunities for them in the region. Technology is affecting everything in our daily lives, and we need to work in tandem with the global digital transformation,” said Bart .

“We are delighted to have signed four MoUs at the IT ceremony to provide IT training, build digital payment solutions to support KPK’s digital transformation and support Pakistani youth and recent graduates to find their passion. Expo 2020 Dubai will allow us to have Opportunity to show our country to the world in a different way,” he added.
