Emirates News Agency – Abu Dhabi University, University of Reading collaborate on teaching, research

ABU DHABI, 5th July, 2022 (WAM) — Abu Dhabi University (ADU) has announced a new partnership with the University of Reading, one of the top 30 universities in the United Kingdom (UK) and the A world leader in agricultural research and teaching, food science and climate change.

The University’s work on climate change was recently awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize, the UK’s highest national honour for higher and further education institutions.

The collaboration was announced through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by ADU Vice-Chancellor Professor Waqar Ahmad and Reading Vice-Chancellor (International) Professor Paul Inman during Professor Ahmad’s visit to the University of Reading.

The two institutions will explore providing teaching, research and consultancy services in areas of critical importance to the UAE and the region, including agribusiness, food security and agricultural technology. A delegation from the University of Reading (UoR) is expected to visit ADU later this year to further discuss how to move forward with the partnership.

The ADU Chancellor said: “UoR has an international reputation for teaching, research and engagement. It is a world leader in many subject areas, including agriculture and food security, which are strategically important to the UAE. The partnership is focused on providing access to Provide world-class teaching and research in strategically important areas, not only for the UAE but for the region as a whole.”

Professor Inman said: “It is a great honour and pleasure to welcome Professor Waqar Ahmad, President of Abu Dhabi University (ADU), to our campus. We are proud of the work done by our colleagues and experts at UoR and have been working to address global issues, including Sustainable food production, biodiversity conservation, animal welfare, food security, poverty reduction and international development. In addition to climate change adaptation and mitigation, ethical food systems, consumer behaviour, diet and health.

In order to strengthen joint research and expand its curriculum through collaboration with prestigious international universities, ADU has signed several international memorandums of understanding with world-leading institutions, including Rice University (USA), University of Arizona (UA) (USA), Arizona State University (United States), Monash University (Australia), University College Dublin (UCD) (Ireland), Trinity College Dublin, National University of Malaysia (UKM) (Malaysia) and Politecnico di Milano (Italy).
