UAE: IB students excel, many head to Ivy League schools, Oxbridge – News

Many students achieve a perfect 7 in every subject and gain admission to some of the world’s top universities

Emirati schools are performing above average and this year well above the international average, with many institutions achieving 100 per cent pass rates, as the results of the International Baccalaureate (IB) exams for school graduation on Tuesday evening were released.

Principals reiterated that despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the country’s IB students have achieved record results this year, with several achieving the top 45, compared with less than 0.5% of students worldwide .

Many students achieve a perfect 7 in every subject and gain admission to some of the world’s top universities.

The IB DP is one of the most highly regarded school qualifications accepted by leading universities around the world – more than 50 schools in the UAE now offer the programme.

Glen Radojkovich, Deputy Director of Education and IB Programs at Taaleem said: “This year, at our Taaleem School, our CP and DP students have a pass rate of 100% with an average of 35.7 points. We are also pleased to report that we have students with a perfect score of 45. 7 points out of 7 in each subject. This reflects the excellent guidance and support our students receive.”

He added: “All our schools have achieved results that are well above the previous school average, which was when students last sat the DP and CP exams. Some schools have seen their average improve by as much as 3.5 points.

“Despite the challenges Covid has created for our learning community, the improved average is indicative of the consistency of supply we are celebrating at Taaleem. We are very proud of them and believe they will continue to do well for years to come.”

In the Gems school network, a total of 534 Year 12/13 students from seven of its schools sat the IB Diploma with an average score of 35.2, compared to the 2021 international average of 33 and a pass rate of 97% – far Above the world average of 89%.

Nargish Khabatta, Principal of GEMS Modern College and Vice President of Education at GEMS, said: “This is truly a ‘stoic group of people’ and we have been amazed at their resilience and ability to remain calm and work in whatever situation they face.

GEMS Modern College scored an average of 36.1 points, GEMS Wellington International School scored an average of 35.9 points, and GEMS Dubai American College scored an average of 35.4 points.

Tammy Jochinke, Principal, American College High School, GEMS Dubai, said: “This year’s results will once again enable GEMS students to continue their studies at some of the best institutions in the world. These include Stanford University, Tufts University, University of Michigan, Imperial College London, London School of Economics, University of Warwick, University College London, University of Toronto, University of Amsterdam and more.”

The seven GEMS schools offering the IB include GEMS World Academy – Dubai, GEMS International School – Al Khail, GEMS Dubai American Academy, GEMS American Academy – Abu Dhabi, GEMS Wellington Academy – Silicon Oasis, GEMS Wellington International School and GEMS Modern Academy.

Kushal Sodum, a student at GEMS Modern Academy, who has a top score of 45 and is heading to the University of Michigan to study mechanical engineering, said: “It feels crazy. I never dreamed it would be like this. You can’t expect things like this, you just Can hope for it. College is a big improvement and a change of pace. I’m excited and a little nervous being this far from home, but it will be a good challenge.”

Five students from the Innovures Education school achieved the highest possible score of 45. Of the 220 students, 5 students scored 44 points, 9 students scored 43 points, 13 students scored 42 points, and 52 students scored 40 points or more.

Other leading university internships include UC Berkeley, University of Chicago, London School of Economics, UCL, Imperial College, McGill University, Delft University of Technology, University of Melbourne, Imperial College London, McGill University, Toronto University, etc. Innovative Education students received 146 offers from Russell Group universities in the UK.
