20 bands performed 40 shows over two days, the 10th annual Frankfurt Bluegrass Festival after a two-year hiatus on Friday and Saturday 9-10 July at Briedert Green and Prairie Park in the historic city centre of Frankfurt A triumphant return on stage.
The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s John McEuen, Robbie Fulks, Special Consensus, Fireside Collective, Becky Buller Band and more will perform on Saturdays from 10am-10pm and Sundays from 10am-8pm.
When the artists left the stage for the last time, the Frankfurt Bluegrass Festival was the defending champion of the “Event of the Year” award named by the International Bluegrass Music Association.
“There’s so much pent-up energy on both sides: artists who can’t wait to perform again and an excellent audience from multiple states,” said Steve Haberricht, founding member of the all-volunteer committee. “Our sponsors and supporters have once again passed, allowing us to host a free bluegrass festival.”
Organisers are happy to announce that this year’s festival is back and that “support through sponsors and grassroots fundraising remains free.”
The challenges of dealing with the pandemic, musicians and volunteers culminated in the cancellation of the last two July festivals to keep everyone safe and healthy, organizers said.
Festival coordinator Amanda Thompson said: “Our supporters are with us as we keep our promise to bring free, high-quality, award-winning bluegrass performances this summer to showcase this truly American music. .”
“Just before a pandemic changed our lives, international recognition raised expectations,” said Haberricht, who is also a participating musician.
“We’re back in shape and ready to sprint forward. The level of music we recruit will never waver, and our audience knows that. Our spring fundraiser is the most important event we’ve ever held due to the pandemic.”
“This is still a free festival and the Village of Frankfurt is proud to support it and welcome it back after a two-year hiatus,” said Frankfurt Mayor Keith Ogle.
“I was impressed by the musical talent of the performers and the accessibility to festival participants. A number of impromptu recitals were organized around the festival where people of all abilities were able to participate and deliver to some of the best people learn.”
Long-time sponsor Blue Island Beer Company has dedicated its new Twin Fiddles Strawberry/Rhubarb Wheat Ale to the return of the festival and will donate all proceeds.
