Ameera Fares holds PhD in Chemical Engineering at UAE University and KU Leuven

Emirati student Ameera Fares has become the first PhD student to earn a double degree at a UAE University.
She received her PhD in Chemical Engineering at two different universities (UAE and KU Leuven in Belgium) for her thesis “Multistage Modified Solvay Process for Carbon Dioxide Capture and Repulsive Brine Desalination”.
She said: “I have had the privilege of obtaining a PhD in chemical engineering from two world-renowned universities under the auspices of professors from the UAE University and KU Leuven.
She added: “Having the opportunity to do a double PhD from the United Arab Emirates and KU Leuven was a life-changing experience. I had a unique research opportunity to gain international research experience that was invaluable in my research journey Step one. I hope this will be the start of many future students starting to earn a double PhD.
The academic experience was very special, she said, “it qualified me to take advantage of the best research facilities at both universities and collaborate with my colleagues for a unique international experience.”
