[ad_1]

Dr Ameera Fares has a unique title – she is the first dual doctorate holder from the oldest university in the UAE.

Dr. Fares, 39, Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering United Arab Emirates University Al Ain and KU Leuven in Belgium at the same time this year.

It took the Jordanian student five years to achieve this feat.

Dr. Fares said: “I have had the privilege of obtaining a PhD in chemical engineering from two world-renowned universities under the auspices of professors from the University of the United Arab Emirates and the University of Leuven.”

“I cannot express the pride and joy of having this unique degree.

“The opportunity to earn a double PhD was a life-changing experience. I had the opportunity to gain international research experience and it was a valuable step in my research journey.”

She hopes more students will consider earning a double doctorate in the future.

“This academic experience was very special and qualified me to take advantage of the best research facilities at both universities and to collaborate with my colleagues for a unique international experience,” she said.

Dr. Fares had to complete coursework for two universities and traveled to Belgium to work at KU Leuven.

Agreements have now been signed between universities allowing students to complete coursework at one university or assign it to two universities.

“I traveled twice during my Ph.D. and conducted several experiments and simulations in the KU Leuven laboratory under the supervision of laboratory engineers and professors,” Dr. Fares said.

Professor Ali Al Marzouqi, Dean of the Graduate School of Emirates University, said his partnership with KU Leuven provides students with the opportunity to study and conduct joint academic research with their international counterparts.

They can also benefit from a diverse international experience, he said.
