[ad_1]

ISLAMABAD, July 8 (AP) — Unseasonal rains and flooding have killed at least 10 people, including two children, in Afghanistan’s northern and eastern provinces, the United Nations said Friday.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said the floods also injured 11 people, with the most casualties and damage reported in the eastern provinces of Nangarhar, Nuristan and Ghani, as well as the northern province of Parwan.

Heavy rainfall on July 5 and July 6 caused severe damage to more than 280 homes and other critical infrastructure in nine provinces, including four bridges and an 8-kilometer (about 5-mile) road.

It was the second flash flood in the eastern region in less than a month, the statement said, after more than two days of torrential rain in June killed 19 people and injured 131.
