Picture this: You show up at a local park with a friend or date and find the perfect picnic setup waiting for you.
The scene is set with tents, rugs, pillows and blankets, and a table with lanterns, plants, glasses and a deli board.
After enjoying the outdoors, you don’t have to worry about cleaning up. You just walk into the sunset.
It might seem like a scene reserved for a dating show or a Jane Austen-inspired daydream, but that happens in Colorado Springs almost every weekend.
That’s thanks to some new luxury picnic planners in the Pikes Peak area.
Many of these were launched after the coronavirus pandemic began, as picnics became an attractive option during times of social distancing.
Local event planner Ashley Johnson begins picnicking on the rocks in 2021. At Glenwood Springs, a health coach and holistic wellness practitioner and “self-proclaimed professional picnicker” combines her interests to offer picnics set against the backdrop of mountains, rivers, hot springs and waterfalls. Mod Picnic Co. in Fort Collins hosts “a well-planned picnic based on simplicity and stylish details.”
“We believe every great event or occasion should be celebrated in style,” its website says. “Whether it’s a date night, a workplace, an anniversary or a baby shower, we’re eager to make it memorable and unique.”
Elite Picnics is another new luxury picnic supplier in Colorado Springs. It started last year after co-owner Tami Nielsen saw a pop-up picnic on a trip to San Diego. When she was back in town, she and her niece Jami Cipriani decided to bring the concept here.
“We’ve elevated the ordinary picnic to the perfect experience,” Ciprini said. “We don’t want people to have to do anything. They just show up and relax.”
They offer three tiers, including picnics of varying group sizes and numbers of details.
“We believe that all occasions, big or small, should be elegant and glamorous,” the website said.
“That’s why we’ve taken the humble ordinary picnic and elevated it to the perfect experience. Our picnics are perfect for any occasion you want to celebrate.”
