As the space race progresses, the UAE’s Mars mission has left this world.

Eight years have passed since the UAE announced the establishment of the UAE Space Agency on 16 July 2014. The agency was founded with one goal: to reach the Red Planet by 2021.

This ambition became a reality on February 9, 2021, when the UAE became the The first Arab country to reach the red planet. The Hope probe has flown more than 340 million kilometers to reach Earth.

the late President Sheikh Khalifa leads mourning Last February, the nation cheered the success of the Hope rover’s historic trip to Mars.

He congratulated the country’s citizens and residents on opening a glorious new chapter in the UAE’s history and praised the role played by the UAE leadership in the success.

Sheikh Khalifa said: “This historic achievement would not have been possible without the persistence and determination to implement the idea set out by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid at the end of 2013, who watched it closely until it succeeded.”

“Thank you to the leaders and team of scientists and engineers behind the project for proving to the world that the UAE is capable of achieving the impossible.”

Successful missions are immediately praised as Inspiring young people in the UAE to explore space.

Rohan Roberts, who runs the astronomy program at Gems Wellington Academy in Al Khail, told National: “Hope Probe inspires young people. It fills us with awe and curiosity about the universe we live in, and fills their minds with optimism

“It’s a nice balance of the doom and gloom narratives of traditional media, our emphasis on the negative, and the fact that students always see the future as dystopian. It fills students with excitement and hope for the future.”

More than 200 engineers and scientists contributed to the mission, including three U.S. universities that helped build spacecraft and scientific targets.

In the 17 months since the Hope rover successfully arrived on Mars, it has sent a trove of data, including Thousands of Earth imagesto help give the world a better understand its solar system neighbors.

In March 2020, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, shared an image showing Mount Olympus, the largest known volcano in the solar system.

“Mount Olympus…the highest mountain in our solar system. Almost three times the height of Mount Everest. Taken by the Hope Rover 13,000 kilometers above the surface of Mars,” Sheikh Hamdan wrote.

According to NASA, Mount Olympus is located in the Tharsis region of Mars and has a diameter of 642 kilometers.
