(Jersey City, NJ) — surati of performing artsTri-state area’s premier award-winning nonprofit, performed on July 4th at the Freedom and Fireworks Festival now known as New Jersey’s Fourth of July Celebration. The festivities took place at Exchange Place on the waterfront in Jersey City. Hosted by Mayor Steven Fulop, the Jersey City Council, the Exchange Place Alliance and the Office of Cultural Affairs, the event is one of the largest Independence Day celebrations in the region, attracting approximately 200,000 visitors and performances by leading artists. This year, Shaquille O’Neal (aka DJ Diesel), Funk Flex and Flo Rida took to the stage where Surati also performed.
Taking the stage at 2.30pm, Surati for Performing Arts showcases a variety of traditional Indian and popular dance and music, showcasing its level of performance and artistic diversity.
The performance begins with a fusion of Indian classical and jazz dancing to the music of Sivamani called Basin Bridge, performed by company dancers Shayna Malhotra, Tanya Chauhan, Karma Chuki and Rimli Roy. The dance was choreographed by Rimli Roy.
Next up was a musical performance by upcoming singer-songwriter Rijah, who performed her recently released single “In my Mind”. Rijah was accompanied on stage by dancer Shayna, who choreographed the jazz moves in the second half of the song.
Following this, Jayanta Banerjee aka JB showed a fusion of classic rock in Bollywood rock fusion songs (Jailhouse Rock and Roop Tera Mastana) with dancers Shayna, Karma and Tanya performing Bollywood and Jazz .

Amullya Kale performed an Indian semi-classical vocal performance, which was later joined by Rimli Roy’s Kathak-based moves. Surati’s set ended with a Bollywood mix of Shayna, Tanya and Karma, choreographed by Laxmi Gusain. Surati’s performance was appreciated by all the attendees and audience.
“We are excited to perform at our very own Jersey City Freedom & Fireworks Festival on July 4th. Our goal is to showcase the best of Indian culture, as well as possible combinations and collaborations with other genres of dance and music, for Different artists and art forms to show,” said founder and artistic director Rimli Roy, who also performed at the event.
