National airline says passengers flying to New York will be compensated
Etihad Airways reduced the number of passengers on its flight from Abu Dhabi to New York on Thursday due to payload constraints. The national airline will provide compensation to affected passengers.
“Etihad Airways was forced to reduce the number of passengers on Thursday’s EY101 flight from Abu Dhabi to New York (JFK) due to operational payload constraints,” an Etihad Airways spokesperson told Cali era in a statement.
A similar cancellation was reported for an Etihad flight from India to the United States on Thursday. Several passengers, including students, were either offloaded or had their bookings cancelled on the Etihad flight from the Indian cities of Mumbai and Bangalore to the United States, the Times of India website reported.
The two-stop flight from Mumbai and Bengaluru stopped in Abu Dhabi before continuing on to the US city on another Etihad flight. As flight EY101 from Abu Dhabi to New York faced payload restrictions on Thursday, it could result in limited seat availability for passengers on shared flights.
The report mentioned that students who are about to start their studies at US educational institutions have purchased last-minute tickets to the US on other airlines, spending nearly 200,000 rupees (Dh9,250).

Regretting the inconvenience caused to passengers, Etihad said it would provide compensation.
“Our team is contacting affected passengers to minimise disruption to them. We regret any inconvenience caused by this last-minute change and we will provide compensation to those affected,” the spokesperson added.
