Authorities aim to strengthen traffic safety as number of cyclists on roads rises

Taxi drivers and delivery bike riders in Abu Dhabi participated in an awareness workshop to learn about the risks of reckless driving and non-compliance with traffic safety rules.
The new initiative, organised by the Abu Dhabi Police and the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of the Ministry of Municipalities and Transport, aims to promote a culture of safe driving for drivers and riders on the roads of the UAE.
The workshop was conducted in Arabic, English and Urdu with participants from Talabat, Deliveroo and Americana in Al Ain.
Lieutenant Colonel Saif Mohammed Al Ameri, Deputy Director of the Al Ain Department of Transport, explained that the initiative is focused on raising the level of traffic awareness.
In his speech, Major Khaled Al Azizi, director of public relations at the Ministry of Transport in Al Ain, urged drivers not to change lanes and brake suddenly on busy roads and to avoid using mobile phones while driving.
He also stressed the need to obey the stated speed limit, pay attention to the road, wear your seat belt and obey other traffic laws
Drivers are also urged to use indicator lights before turning and to avoid speeding and overtaking at traffic lights as this could lead to a collision.
He pointed out that road safety education for taxi drivers and delivery men will help strengthen traffic safety in the emirate.
The number of bike delivery riders on Abu Dhabi’s roads has grown significantly over the past few years due to a surge in demand for food and grocery deliveries.
