DCD reviews progress on Abu Dhabi’s People of Determination strategy pillar

Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Department of Community Development (ADDCD), with strategic partners overseeing the implementation of the Abu Dhabi People of Determination Strategy 2020-2024, held a Q2 2022 meeting for leaders of the strategy pillars. Moderated by Dr. Layla Alhyas, Executive Director of the DCD Community Development Sector, and attended by executive representatives from 13 relevant entities, the meeting discussed progress in implementing the strategy and action plan, as well as expected outcomes for the remainder of 2022.

The meeting was held at the Al Karamah Training Institute under the Abu Dhabi Ministry of Education and Knowledge. The academy aims to provide determined students – particularly autistic students aged 15 and over – with future opportunities for independent living and employment by offering students a series of career workshops designed to develop hands-on learning experiences. The meeting was purposely held at the AlKaramah Training Academy to highlight the efforts of relevant entities in Abu Dhabi in advancing and accelerating the implementation of the Abu Dhabi People of Determination strategy, while also highlighting the rights and potential of people of determination to enter the labour market when inclusive Contribute effectively to social and economic life when sexual plans, arrangements and practices are available.

The Abu Dhabi Determined People Strategy comprises 24 strategic initiatives covering six main pillars, including education, employment, social care, universality, health and recovery, and enablers. It aims to work with partners from government, the private sector and third-party sectors to make the Emirate of Abu Dhabi an inclusive, empowering city that fosters the determination of its people.

During the meeting, Her Excellency Dr. Layla Alhyas commended the efforts of the working group to implement the strategic initiatives, as they reflect the level of communication and integration to achieve the main objective of empowering people of determination and integrating them into society. She stressed that the continued efforts of the entities concerned with clear plans and concrete results will have a positive impact on the lives of determined people and their families. Dr Alhyas added that the strategy is part of a vision of wise leadership to support people of determination and in line with the social sector agenda to provide a decent life for all members of society.

During the meeting, the six pillars of the strategy discussed the main outcomes and progress achieved in the previous phase, as well as the main challenges faced by entities in implementing initiatives and appropriate solutions.The Facilitator Working Group, led by the Department of Community Development (DCD), clarified progress on key initiatives such as the establishment of an integrated care system for determined people and their families in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, training and capacity building on inclusive practices, As well as implementing comprehensive systems governance and evaluating plans for determined people across government sectors and social protection programmes

The Social Care Working Group, led by Zayed High Resolute People, reviewed key initiatives in the strategy, the final stage of the alignment of the local disability classification system with the UAE’s unified national disability classification, based on a rights-based view of disability. Targeted community outreach campaigns, support programmes for families and carers of people of determination, and officers serving people of determination.

The Universal Access Working Group, led by the Ministry of Municipalities and Transport, with the participation of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi Digital Authority, Abu Dhabi Housing Authority, Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Abu Dhabi Airports and Abu Dhabi Ports, discussed progress in implementing these initiatives, most notably “Universal Access to Built Environment and Transport Services”, “Universal Access to Housing”, “Universal Access to Electronic and Intelligent Systems, Services and Information”, “Universal Access to Inclusive Sports” Programs”, “Universal Access to Inclusive Cultural and Tourism Programs”, “Inclusive Air Travel Experiences” and “Inclusive Sea Travel Experiences”.

The Health and Rehabilitation Working Group, led by the Abu Dhabi Ministry of Health and the Early Childhood Authority, discussed the key achievements and challenges of the initiative that falls within its scope, namely developing a unified, comprehensive and comprehensive assessment framework for people of determination, integrated early childhood Intervention Programs and Assistive Technology Programs.

The Education Working Group, led by the Ministry of Education and Knowledge, reviewed the progress of plans to implement the Inclusive Education Model in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, including the launch and implementation of the Inclusive Education Policy and Framework.

Finally, the Employment Task Force, led by the Abu Dhabi Human Resources Authority, confirmed that an inclusive employment policy initiative for people of determination is in the approval process.The team presented the achievements and work plans of several projects launched under the Inclusive Employment Initiatives initiative, including a project to establish and apply an occupational classification for determined people, a project to establish an employment registry for determined people at the Government of Abu Dhabi , an electronic system for job matching and nominations, and a project to develop guidelines for Abu Dhabi government entities on the employment process for determined people

The meeting concluded with an appreciation for the combined efforts of all parties and a general discussion on how to effectively address the expected challenges of implementing the strategy in the next phase to ensure meaningful and sustained impact. Present were the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Knowledge, Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority, Zayed Senior Organization of People of Determination, Ministry of Municipalities and Transport, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Abu Dhabi Digital Authority , Abu Dhabi Airport, Abu Dhabi Housing Authority, Abu Dhabi Ports, Human Resources Authority.
