Las Vegas Grand Prix dates revealed, race to be paired with Abu Dhabi

Earlier this year, F1 achieved a major coup by securing all the agreements and permits it needed to use Las Vegas city streets and let its cars drive past some of the city’s major casinos.

A letter of intent from Liberty Dice, a new entity created by the sport’s owner Liberty Media, lays out the terms of a five-year contract for F1 to race on a circuit Include a section on Vegas’ world-famous “Broadway.”

The letter, dated March 28, two days before the official announcement of the event – at the time no exact date of play beyond “November 2023” was given – is subject to change.

It revealed a planned inaugural race date of Nov. 18 next year, a week before the U.S. Thanksgiving weekend, with the contract running through 2027.

That opens the door for it to become the penultimate round of regular events of the season, with F1 looking to wrap up its schedule in Abu Dhabi on the last weekend of November.

The letter pledges to maintain the same weekend slots for five years, and will plan a schedule for nighttime races so that track activity will end no later than 1:30 a.m. PT each day.

The document also sets out the commercial terms for the event, as well as the basis for the construction and maintenance of the temporary street circuit. It includes guidelines for 900 law enforcement officers, 1,200 fire extinguishers, 15 cranes and 18 ambulances and trailers.

It does not include plans for a permanent pit and race control facility revealed by Liberty chief executive Greg Maffei in May It will be built on a parcel of land near downtown Las Vegas purchased for $240 million.

Maffei said: “Unlike most places, F1 and Liberty Media are working with local stakeholders and Live Nation to promote the race itself.

“The construction of this track will require increased capex and opex to develop. I will note that Liberty Media did have an agreement to acquire 39 acres east of the strip to lock in the track design and Create capacity for pits and paddocks and other hospitality and race support venues.”
