Abu Dhabi to host first GCC Volleyball Cup tournament

Fatima Bint Mubarak Women’s Sports Academy will host the inaugural GCC Volleyball Championship in Abu Dhabi. Women’s sporting events are part of an initiative to encourage young women in the GCC to participate in such events, games and tournaments. The inaugural event will take place from August 26 to 31 at the Jiu Jitsu Arena in Zayed Sports City, Abu Dhabi, UAE.

The sporting event will feature six women’s volleyball teams, three from the UAE: Fatima bint Mubarak Academy, Al-Wasl Club and Sharjah Women’s Club, and the remaining three from other GCC countries, including Saudi Nura Club from Saudi Arabia, Salwa Al Saba from Kuwait and Bahrain Club from Bahrain.

The sporting event will take place at the end of the month, coinciding with Emirati Women’s Day on 28 August each year. This is a thoughtful decision by the Fatima Bint Mubarak Women’s Sports Academy to reinforce the theme of women’s empowerment.

The tournament will feature 72 women’s volleyball players in the upcoming tournament, an initiative also supported by the government.

It was during a press conference at the headquarters of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council that the GCC Women’s Volleyball Championship was held in the hands of some influential figures such as the Council’s Executive Director of Sports Development Talal Hashemi and Amal Afifi. Announced in the Board of Directors of Fatima Bint Mubarak Women’s Sports Academy.

Speaking at the conference, Amal Al Afifi said: “The launch of the inaugural GCC Women’s Volleyball Cup represents another important moment in the history of the FBMA as we continue to create opportunities for women to regularly participate and succeed in sport. Volleyball is a A sport that continues to grow and grow in popularity, we are delighted to bring this important Gulf game to Abu Dhabi and showcase the best talent in the region.”

Talal Al Hashemi added: “We believe that this new tournament that brings together players from different countries in the GCC will be a valuable opportunity for teams to interact and gain more experience and deliver better performances,” he added. Talked about how this tournament not only empowers and inspires women in the GCC, but also unites people in the region.
