Big Bash star Lynn signs with UAE T20 league

[ad_1]

Big Bash League’s all-time leading scorer Chris Lynn has been named one of the key players in the inaugural UAE T20 League.

The former Brisbane Heat slugger was one of 21 overseas stars announced by the International League T20 (ILT20) on Monday night, along with T20 globetrotters Andre Russell, Sunil Narion, Yale Lex Hailes tied with Chris Jordan.

Lynn, who parted ways with the Heat at the end of last season after 102 appearances for the club, has been linked with the Adelaide striker who moved to BBL|12.

It is unclear how Lynn’s announcement as a big-name player would affect any such deal, but under ICC rules his participation in ILT20 would need to be approved by Cricket Australia through a “No Objection Certificate”, which requires players to play in foreign domestic matches by their Home Clearance.

While the 32-year-old has struggled to find consistency in the Big Bash in recent seasons, he has increased his value as a free agent over the past few months, as he has played in England. Nearly 160 of 10 games in Northamptonshire with two centuries and 516 strikes in the T20 Blast Championship.

The top players in the Emirates League will receive tournament bonuses of up to AU$650,000, which is much more than Lynn’s earnings as a domestic player in the Big Bash, given the club’s salary cap of around $1.9 million.

ILT20’s six teams – three of which are owned by Indian Premier League teams Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Cavaliers and Delhi Capitals – will select up to 12 foreign players in their 18-player squad, including 4 are from the UAE and 2 are from ICC-aligned countries.

Big Bash clubs can sign up to seven overseas players per season, but only three can be in the XI at any one time, with reports that up to nine can be selected in the Emirates League XI.

Other key players announced include Evin Lewis, Colin Munro, Hales, Akeal Hosein, Sandeep Lamichhane, Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Mujeeb ur Rahman, who are also nominated for the BBL draft later this month.

These players are unlikely to be available throughout the Big Bash season as the Emirates League plans to clash with the BBL|12 at the start of early January.

Paul Sterling, Ali Khan, Brandon Glover, Ravi Ramball, Blessed Muzarabani, Hazaratullah Zazai, Frederick Klassen, West Kanda Raza, Dan Lawrence, Jamie Overton, Liam Dawson, David Weiss, Kais Ahmed, Richard Gleeson, James Wen Sri Lanka, Nur Ahmed, Rahmanullah Gulbaz, Naveen-ul-haq, Sherfane Rutherford and Benny Howell are the undrafted players nominated for the Emirates League, who are also in the BBL draft pool.

The BBL draft currently has 169 players from 15 countries, and another batch of nominations is expected to be announced this week. Nominations will close on August 21, Platinum status players will be announced the next day, and the draft will be broadcast live on Fox Cricket and Kayo Sports on August 28, following the first ODI between Australia and Zimbabwe.

UAE ILT20 big names in 2023: Moen Ali, Andre Russell, David Maran, Wanindu Hassalanga, Sunil Narion, Evan Lewis, Colin Munro, Fabian Ay Len, Sam Billings, Tom Curran, Alex Hayles, Dushmantha Chamila, Himron Heitmeier, Akyr Hussain, Chris Jordan, Tom Banton, Sandeep Ramihane, Chris Lynn, Roffman Powell, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Mujeeb ur Rahman
