Kozhikode: A Kozhikode native who works in the UAE education sector claims that two Malayans have embezzled Rs 6 crore from him.
Dr. Shaljan Areepattamannil, professor at the Department of Assessment and School Evaluation at the Emirates College of Higher Education (ECAE), said the accused absconded with funds obtained from foreign companies to open American schools in the UAE.
According to his complaint to the DGP and the Kozhikode district police chief, Palakad locals Vinu Santhakumar and Radhakrishnan Sankaranarayanan allegedly absconded shortly after receiving the money.
Shaljan alleges that Venu embezzled Rs 1 crore from him as a processing fee for arranging the Irish Finance Corporation loan.
However, it was later discovered that the company was fake. Shaljan said Radhakrishnan had embezzled Rs 5 crore from him, promising to find investment for the establishment of the school. He is also absconding.
Shaljan met Vinu through a mutual friend. After giving the money, Shaljan was unable to reach Vinu. He has since lodged a complaint with the Abu Dhabi Judiciary. However, Vinu left India before the UAE authorities issued a travel ban on him. As a result, Shaljan was also forced to file a complaint in Kerala.
