Ryan Giggs’ ex-girlfriend moved in Abu Dhabi” “Stay away” from the former Manchester United Football star, the court heard.

Giggs allegedly headbutted Kate Greville and elbowed her sister in the jaw in November 2020. eventwhen his partner tried to leave him after years of “coercive and controlling behaviour”, Manchester Crown Court heard.

Greville claims her ex-lover controlled, beat and set her on fire during their on-and-off four-year relationship, which she said began when the pair met in 2013, when they were both married.

The footballer has denied the allegations against him.

Greville left her husband to pursue her relationship with Ryan Giggs within two months of their marriage, but when the footballer failed to report back to his wife, Stacey Cook, she gave him an ultimatum.

She claims that she decided to move to the UAE after witnessing no change.

“It went on for about nine months and then I decided he wasn’t going to break up with Stacey, it wasn’t going to happen. I lived in Abu Dhabi to get away from him,” Greville told police in court.

The UAE has also experienced its own high-profile cases of abuse, including among British expats and holidaymakers.

Human Rights Watch said last year that despite recent improvements, the UAE must do more on women’s rights.

The former footballer allegedly bombarded Greville with messages and assured her she was the “only person” he wanted to be with and that the two could start a family together, which convinced Greville to move back to the UK .

She claims she later found out – shortly before deciding to leave him – that he was in “full-scale relationships” with eight other women while the two were dating.

“The reality I found…was a lot worse than I imagined…the eight women he had affairs with while he was with me. Full-blown relationships,” she said.

Greville signed his first professional contract with Manchester United in 1990 and ended his successful career with Manchester United in 2014 before becoming the manager of the Wales national team.

The footballer announced his resignation from management in June 2022 after being accused of assaulting Greville and her sister.

The trial continues.
