EWEC (Emirates Water and Electricity Company) and the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on promoting best practices in sustainable development and promoting the adoption of Clean Energy Certificates (CECs) by industry across the emirate )department.
The joint initiative aims to strengthen the competitiveness of Abu Dhabi’s energy sector and its relationships with various industrial and private sector manufacturing players.
EWEC will work with ADDED through the Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) to develop new solutions to support innovation in energy products.
Both parties will also lead the development of proposals to ensure the continuous enhancement of the ecosystem to attract new investment and enable sustainable factories to flourish in Abu Dhabi, supporting Abu Dhabi’s long-term strategic plans, including Abu Dhabi Industries, by fully harnessing the potential Innovating technologies and enhancing the sustainability of the entire ecosystem in line with the UAE’s Net Zero Strategic Initiative to 2050, the strategy statement said.
Abu Dhabi’s Department of Energy (DoE) released the Clean Energy Certificate Regulatory Policy in August 2021 to drive the transition to a sustainable and decarbonized energy sector, marking the establishment of an energy attribute certificate market and promoting renewable and nuclear energy attributes in the emirate .
Rashed Abdulkarim Al Blooshi, Deputy Minister of ADDED, said: “We will continue to actively pursue partnerships and alliances with public and private sector market players to ensure Abu Dhabi’s smart and circular economy can achieve its goals and, in turn, the UAE’s possible Sustainable Development Goals are being achieved.”
