Greenville (WSPA) — The folks of Greenville now have a new entertainment venue to enjoy.
Greenville Boulevard held a ribbon-cutting event to unveil the newest attraction outside Fluor Field on Greenville’s West Side.
“This is a very special day for us, where we will be showcasing the city’s newest world-class facilities. That makes Greenville such an attractive place, but it also happens to be the 16th annual Greenville Today, it’s the day we celebrate Greenville’s birthday,” said Craig Brown, owner of Greenville Avenue.
“Now, Fluor Field has become the front porch of the community, not just the front porch of the Main Street community, but the front porch of the entire community,” Brown said. “It’s something we’re very proud of. You can be sure that Area 356 will allow us to expand the reach of Fluor Field.”
The City of Greenville and Greenville Avenue have been talking about the project for years. Now, this will be where people can go to dance parties.
“I think it will bring a lot of people closer together, get out more, and do things together more as family,” said resident Joanne Coffey.
“Right now, I’m standing on ground zero and it’s fun for families, fun for all ages. So, we’ve got a sports museum. We’ll have buskers. We’ll have face painters, balloon artists … you’ll see inflatables. You’ve got food trucks. You’ve got musicians all over the place. We’ve got all kinds of things happening in this pedestrian-only area. In spring, summer, and fall, it’s going to be a Carnival-like atmosphere,” Brown said.
The new entertainment area is already a hit with the little ones.
“We love bouncy houses and stuff,” Harmony said.
The carnival-like atmosphere is modeled after a street outside Boston Red Sox’s Fenway Park.
“This new street is kind of cool because I’ve been to the real Fenway too, so it reminds me of it. It looks really similar,” said event participant Isaac McKittrick.
“Spring, summer, fall will be a carnival atmosphere, but also a place to party. It will also be an extension of Fluor Field, such as our Halloween Greenville Monster Mud, Greenville Christmas Village, Resort,” Brown said.
The new area isn’t just for baseball fans.
“This was the start of a lot of things in our community,” said Lillian Brock Flemming of Greenville City Council.
“Please come and enjoy this ballpark, and this special community, because it’s for the community. So we’re excited. Thank you for coming,” Fleming said. “Then let’s play.”
Leaders said what people saw on Wednesday was just the beginning. There will be more events and activities in the future.
“Blood-driven, food-driven. So District 356 will be jumping 365 days a year. As exciting as this is, we’re not done yet. It’s just the beginning, and you can look for drives for further announcements,” Brown said.
