Dubai’s heritage and history showcased at American Culture Festival

The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) showcased the emirate’s heritage, traditions and history during its participation in the recently held 2022 Smithsonian Folk Festival at the National Mall in Washington, USA.

The Authority is titled “United Arab Emirates: Living Landscapes | Living Memories.

One of the world’s most famous arts and cultural events, the festival takes place every year in Washington. After a two-year suspension of activities, this year’s festival is being held with the full support of the UAE Ministry of Culture and Youth, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the UAE Embassy in the United States of America. Witnessing the participation of 80 artists from across the UAE, the festival celebrates the UAE’s heritage, identity and cultural, artistic and creative achievements, highlighting the many prestigious cultural events the UAE hosts that bring the intellectual community together.

Dubai Culture’s involvement includes a display of its collection of traditional Emirati sailboats, as well as a set of heritage collections on loan from the Al Shindagha Museum, as well as marine culture-related collections such as nautical and pearl diving tools. Furthermore, in addition to the exhibited collections, lectures by experts were organised who highlighted the rich maritime culture of the UAE heritage.

It also offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore the creation of the Al-Durour map, a reference for forecasting weather conditions based on the location of the stars, and highlights the emirate’s efforts to preserve the Emirati cultural heritage that has been passed down from generation to generation.

Mariam Al-Tamimi, Al Shindagha Community Manager and Acting Director of the Heritage Department, Ministry of Culture, Dubai affirmed that the Authority is keen to celebrate the culture and heritage of the UAE, spared no effort to spread Dubai’s heritage to the rest of the world, and to enhance the emirate’s culture in international forums. footprint and cement its position as a global cultural center.

Al-Tamimi added: “Dubai is a vibrant city that offers residents and visitors a unique experience to learn about its unique heritage and historical origins. Participation in the festival promotes the Al Shindagha Museum as the emirate’s main cultural attraction Opportunities to help revitalize the museum’s cultural tourism.
