Entertainment Community Fund re-elects Brian Stokes Mitchell and announces new trustees

The Entertainment Community Fund (formerly the Actors Fund) held its first annual meeting since its inception renamed Back in May.

Brian Stokes Mitchell was reelected as chair of the fund. This marked the Tony Award recipient’s 19th term.

Five new trustees – Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, Elliot Greene, Sharon Karmazin, Tyler Perry and Alvin Jr. Alvin Vincent Jr.. These individuals will work together to support and execute the Fund’s mission, which includes expanding service nationwide.

Crabtree-Ireland is SAG-AFTRA’s National Executive Director and Chief Negotiator. Green is the chief operating officer of the Schubert Organization. Karmazin is a producer and philanthropist. Perry is an award-winning writer, director, producer, actor, and founder of Atlanta’s Tyler Perry Studios. Vincent is the current executive director of the Actors Equity Association.

“We are delighted to welcome Duncan, Elliot, Sharon, Tyler and Alvin as the first to join our Board of Directors under the new name of the Entertainment Community Fund,” said Joseph Benincasa, President and CEO of the Fund. “Our 140 years of life-changing work will continue to help the performing arts and entertainment communities with Stokes re-elected as chair.”

“It is an honor to continue serving as chairman of the fund’s board of directors,” Mitchell said. “I look forward to working with Duncan, Elliot, Sharon, Tyler, Alvin and the rest of our Board of Directors and Council to support performing arts and entertainment professionals across the country.”

In addition to the election, the Fund’s Board of Directors announced the creation of a new award. The Medal of Distinction honors those in the arts and entertainment world who are dedicated to helping their peers.

John Bowab and Marty Wiviott were announced as the first two winners. Bowab has a career of more than 50 years as a director and producer, while Wiviott has been a stage manager, producer and executive for over 60 years. The pair collaborated on a series of critically acclaimed concerts at the Pantages Theater Hall in California.

Since 1882, the fund has been dedicated to supporting artistic life by providing stability to entertainment professionals. The fund continues to help make life in the arts more sustainable by providing programs that include emergency financial assistance, workshops, support groups, mental health resources, and more.
