Ministry of Health - Malafi platform in Abu Dhabi adds new features

Malaffi, the region’s first health information exchange platform, an initiative of the Abu Dhabi Ministry of Health, has added a “patient risk profile” to the platform.

According to the state news agency, WAMMalaffi connects almost the entire sector in Abu Dhabi, including all hospitals and 2,000 public and private healthcare facilities, and provides more than 7 million patients with access to 900 million patient records by over 45,000 authorized users.

The newly added feature can predict a patient’s risk level of developing certain chronic diseases or suffering from acute events.

Malaffi’s risk management solutions use advanced artificial intelligence techniques and machine learning algorithms to build predictive risk models based on the emirate’s population-level demographic and clinical data available to Malaffi.

The Malaffi Patient Risk Profile displays each patient’s risk score against a range of common chronic diseases such as diabetes, congestive heart failure, chronic kidney disease, high blood pressure and acute events such as heart attack, stroke and more.

In addition, personal risk scores help clinicians make informed decisions and interventions to manage and prevent individuals from developing underlying conditions or hospitalization.

To identify at-risk patients, the solution currently uses clinical data such as diagnoses, chronic diseases and laboratory results. Drug information will be added to the model in future releases to further improve accuracy.

D Bakr Saadoon Ismail, Physician Informatics, Health Operations Management, Outpatient Healthcare Services, Abu Dhabi Health Services (SEHA); and member of the Malaffi Clinical Advisory Committee, said: “As practicing physicians, this predictive tool will help us effectively to assess individual patient risk and help make decisions about treatments, medications and recommendations specific to their individual situation. These risk projections are based on population-level data in the UAE and comprehensive records of individual visits and visits to all healthcare facilities. The facts improve the clinical care we provide to patients.”
