30 UAE students get work experience opportunities at EGA

Emirates Global Aluminium, the largest industrial company outside of oil and gas in the UAE, will welcome 30 UAE nationals this summer with work experience from high school and university students to strengthen their career prospects and encourage them to work in the UAE’s growing industrial economy Seek opportunities.

Most of these students are in grades 10, 11 or 12 in high school, while some have just completed their first year of undergraduate science, technology, engineering or math in college. Half of the candidates selected are women, reflecting both the high percentage of women studying STEM subjects at UAE universities and EGA’s efforts to increase women’s roles across the company.

Each student will work in corporate functions at EGA in Jebel Ali, Dubai or Al Taweelah in Abu Dhabi for approximately one month, supervised by an EGA mentor.

Iman Al Qasim, Executive Vice President, Human Capital, EGA, said: “As the UAE’s industrial champions, we aim to encourage talented young people to consider careers in industry, especially in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. At EGA The work experience of ours provides an opportunity to both hone vocational skills and gain insight into the contribution to our country through this type of work. We look forward to these young people joining EGA or other industrial companies permanently in the future to achieve 3000 in the UAE play a long-term role in the industrial growth strategy of 100 million yuan.”

Since its launch in 2002, EGA’s Summer Work Experience Programme has provided opportunities for more than 600 Emirati students.

In addition to the work experience programme, EGA staff regularly interact with students across the UAE to advance science, technology, engineering and mathematics and to deepen their understanding of the importance of industry to the UAE economy.

EGA’s Ambassadors programme sees young EGA engineers visiting universities, while Engineers for the Future is a programme to visit high schools established with schools in the UAE.

EGA is a valued employer of professionals in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, with more than 1,500 employees in these fields.

Nearly 1,200 UAE nationals now work at the EGA. EGA’s more than 700 UAE employees are under the age of 35. The company said that EGA has one of the highest rates of Emiratisation of all major companies, reaching a key Emiratisation rate of 40% by the end of 2021. – arab trade news agency
