Daily public transport usage in Dubai up 52% ​​to 1.68 million in first half

In the first half of 2022, the average daily utilization rate of passengers using public transport, shared mobility and taxis in Dubai reached approximately 1.68 million passengers, an increase of 52.7% compared to approximately 1.1 million passengers in the first half of 2021.

This figure compares to an increase of around 202 million riders in the first half of 2021.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the RTA, said: “Dubai Metro and taxis account for the largest share of passengers using public transport, shared transport and taxis, with Dubai Metro accounting for 36% and Dubai Metro 29%. Taxi, while Public buses accounted for 26%. March 2022 was the busiest of all months with 62 million passengers, coinciding with the end of Expo 2020 Dubai. Passenger numbers in other months ranged from 46 to 49 million. Larger than Covid-19 Passenger traffic in the first half of 2022 increased by 3% compared to the same period in 2019 before the epidemic. This is an important indicator of the growing demand for public transport and the recovery of economic activity in Dubai.”

“By the first half of 2022, the Red and Green Lines of Dubai Metro will reach 109.1 million passengers, with Burjuman and Union Station accounting for the largest share of passengers. On the Red and Green Lines, Burjuman Station serves 6.2 million passengers, while Union Station The station is used by 5.3 million passengers,” Al Tayer added.

“Al Rigga station is the busiest station on the Red Line, serving 4.7 million passengers, followed by Mall of the Emirates station (4.6 million passengers) and Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station (4.3 million passengers). On the Green Line , Baniyas and Sharaf DG stations ranked first in the number of passengers (3.6 million passengers each), followed by Stadium station (2.7 million passengers), then Salah Al Din station (2.5 million passengers) and Al Ghubaiba station (2.3 million riders) ),” explained Al Tayer.

In the first half of 2022, Dubai trams carried 3.6 million passengers, public buses carried 78.6 million passengers, and sea transport (abras, water buses, water taxis and ferries) carried 8.2 million passengers. Shared mobility (e-hailing, smart rental cars, on-demand buses) added 16.4 million passengers, and taxis (Dubai Taxi and Franchise) added 88.7 million passengers.

Integrated network
“These results reflect the efficiency of the RTA’s programmes and programmes to provide diverse mobility options for the people of the emirate. Dubai’s fully integrated public transport network is now the backbone of people’s mobility around Dubai. The network has successfully enabled communities to culture and attitudes have changed and evolved to use more public transport,” Al Tayer noted.

“The RTA’s strategy and execution plan are built on the principle of integration. Therefore, smooth mobility in the emirate depends on providing integrated solutions to widen and improve the network of roads, intersections and public transport, including metros, trams, buses , marine transportation, first and last mile transportation and shared transportation

“It also depends on improvements and integration of facilities for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as upgrades to transport systems, roads and public transport to ensure optimum utilization and efficiency. Elements of smooth travel also include implementations that limit the public’s reliance on private cars and policies that increase their reliance on other modes of mobility, including public and shared transport,” concluded Al Tayer. – arab trade news agency
