Abu Dhabi: Two arrested for growing cannabis for trade

Two people have been arrested Abu Dhabi Abu Dhabi police said on Tuesday that 14 cannabis plants were grown for trade purposes.

The pair, with Asian nationalities, were arrested for using part of their patron’s farm to grow the plants with the intent to trade them for profit.

Police said they received information about the violation from a secure source, then raided the farm where they arrested two Asian nationals and seized 14 cannabis plants.

After investigation, police concluded that the farmer was infrequent and unaware, suggesting that the pair used his land to grow cannabis plants.

They have now been referred to the Public Prosecution Service.

Brigadier General Taher Ghareeb al-Dhaheri, Director of the Narcotics Bureau of the Criminal Security Department, called on farmers to regularly follow up with their sponsored workers to ensure they are not committing any offences such as possession or cultivation of contraband cannabis, the Abu Dhabi Police said in a statement. and other drugs.

Al-Dhaheri also urged farmers to refer to photos of seized cannabis plants to determine if similar incidents occurred on their farms and called on them to report such incidents to the police.

Marijuana of any kind is illegal in the US United Arab Emirates. Anyone found in possession of marijuana could face jail time and hefty fines, or immediate deportation.
