Tokyo Olympics: Indian player Sindu hopes the bronze medal can inspire a new generation of badminton-News

India has now won two medals (1 silver and 1 bronze) in the ongoing Olympics.

Indian badminton star PV Sindhu hopes to inspire a new generation after adding the Tokyo Olympic bronze medal to her 2016 silver medal on Sunday.

Five years after finishing second in the Rio Olympics, the world champion defeated China’s He Bingjiao 21-13, 21-15, adding to her collection.

Now, she hopes that the world’s second most populous country can use her achievements as a springboard to strive for more badminton success.

“I believe that many young people and others will have the motivation to work hard and come forward,” she said.

“I believe we can do it. If I can do it, then everyone can do it.”

Sindhu’s goal was to become the second Indian to win the Olympic individual gold medal, but lost to Taiwan’s Dai Ziying in the semifinals.

She said she was “sad” for not being able to win a silver medal that was better than in 2016.

But she was able to put her disappointment behind and won the bronze medal.

“I have to calm all my emotions for this game and go all out,” she said.

“I’m very happy, I think I did a good job. Winning a medal for the country is definitely a proud moment for me and the people there.”

Sindhu won the world championship in 2019 following the silver medal in the 2016 Olympics.

She said that she “definitely” will challenge the Olympic gold medal again at the 2024 Paris Olympics and support herself to continue to improve.

“Every time I win, it’s a stepping stone,” said the 26-year-old.

“It boosts my motivation. I can do better, I can work harder.

“I think this is my passion for the sport-once you have achieved something, you will want to achieve more and more.”
