Alexei Molchanov breaks all records currently held at the site
Freediving champion Alexey Molchanov recently dived to a depth of 60 meters in Deep Dive Dubai and returned to the surface in 57 seconds. He broke all records currently held at the site.
Before performing the feat, Molchanov used “lung filling,” a breathing technique that allows divers to inflate their lungs with up to 2 gallons of air and stay underwater for several minutes at a time. The technique, which the freediving champion has perfected over the years, has allowed him to reach the depths of Dubai’s diving pools in one breath.
The human body requires intense training and adaptation to freediving. Experienced divers like Alexey must drop their heart rate to over 50 percent to respond to depth.
The body also experiences peripheral vasoconstriction, which involves blood being pushed only to vital organs to keep the body functioning properly in response to stress. The lungs compensate for the overpressure of diving with the necessary expansion.
