In the first half of 2022, the Abu Dhabi Police (ADP), in collaboration with the Control and Follow-up Centre, fined 162 drivers for throwing rubbish on roads and public facilities while driving.
ADP advises road users to place rubbish and waste in designated places with consideration for environmental safety and public health, and to maintain the civilized aspect of the emirate.
Police also called on motorists to remind passengers not to litter, and to promote positive behavior by protecting the environment and public image, explaining that such behavior could lead to environmental pollution.
ADP urges community members to work with competent authorities to protect public health, safety and the environment by disposing of waste in closed waste containers.
Police said Section 71 of the Traffic Act clearly states that littering the road while driving is an offence, and drivers who violate the rules will be fined Dh1,000 and six black spots.
Police said they would continue to work to raise awareness among motorists and road users to prevent some motorists from distorting the environment by carelessly engaging in uncivilised behaviour.
