Cincinnati, USA: World No. 1 Daniel Medvedev advanced to the quarterfinals of the ATP and WTA Cincinnati Masters on Thursday, while women’s world No. 1 Iga Swatek was beaten by American Madison Keys beat.
Top seed Medvedev gave Denis Shapovalov a 7-5, 7-5 victory over the world number one, while Poland’s Swatek lost 6-3, 6-4 to 2019 Cincinnati champion Keith, The latter needed five match points to complete the shocking victory.
Shapovalov, who lost within one hour and three points, has given up all eight of his professional matches with the elite echelon.

“I’ve had a couple of games with a couple of match points,” Keys said. “She beat me badly last time, so I’m happy to win.”
Swatek never found an ace and fought back in vain after losing a match, being broken five times.
It was the second week in a row that the Poles, who have won 37 straight this season, have lost in the third round of the Masters. Seven days ago, she suffered the same fate in Toronto.
Keys faced Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina on Friday, who advanced to the quarter-finals with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Allison Riske-Amritray.

John Isner hit 20 aces in a 7-6 (7/3), 1-6, 7-6 (7/4) win over fellow American Sebastian Korda. Isner, 37, is the oldest Cincinnati men’s quarterfinalist in the post-1968 Open era.
Isner passed Roger Federer, who was 37 when he reached the most recent quarterfinals in Cincinnati in 2018.
