Abu Dhabi once again named the safest city in the world

[ad_1]

This is the second time this year…

Numbeo, the global statistical database, has published its mid-2022 survey results to Quality of life around the world.

The survey determined the overall value of “quality of life” based on a number of qualifying factors, with aspects of life contributing to the overall feeling of “you know what, this place is actually pretty good”. One of the main indicators of quality of life is the crime rate, and vice versa – how safe a given city is.

Other quality-of-life determinants include cost of living, healthcare, climate, traffic, and pollution.

How did the UAE do it?

The UAE ranks highly overall in terms of national quality of life scores – 11th out of 87 countries, making it the highest among Middle Eastern countries. It is far ahead of the US (19), UK (20), Spain (15), Canada (22), France (29), India (48), Singapore (28), Pakistan (70), etc.

In terms of quality of life, the biggest winners include Switzerland, Scandinavian and Australian countries, Germany and Austria.

But when you break down the data into cities and look at perceived and real safety scores, this is where our urban sprawl really dominates life.

Of the 453 cities that provided data, Abu Dhabi ranked first (and the lowest in terms of perceived criminal threat). Make our capital the least gritty city. Even more impressively, this is actually the seventh consecutive time Abu Dhabi has topped the list.

It’s not just Abu Dhabi that makes those numbers look less rookie. Sharjah is seventh – 312 places ahead of London, UK; Dubai is eighth, just 223 places ahead of Mumbai, India.

most unsafe city

Zelaya, Mexico; Pretoria, South Africa; Caracas, Venezuela rounded out the bottom three, with Caracas finishing last.

Survey respondents were asked to rate their feelings

  • How serious do you think the crime is?
  • Changes in crime levels over the past three years
  • The safety of walking during the day
  • The safety of walking at night
  • How worried are you about being mugged or robbed
  • Worry about car theft (or what’s in it)
  • Fear of being physically attacked by strangers
  • Fear of being insulted or pestered by anyone on the street or in any other public place
  • Fear of being physically attacked because of color, race, gender or religion
  • The problem of people using and dealing in drugs
  • How serious is the property crime problem?
  • How serious is the violent crime problem?

Not surprisingly, Abu Dhabi has consistently ranked so highly in such surveys.
