Downtown councillor skeptical of Lavish’s adult entertainment application for permit

For John Fyfe-Millar, it doesn’t count at all.

Ward 13 London councillors wonder if the application to relocate an adult parlor entertainment licence to the Lavish nightclub in Dundas Place is really giving the club more indecent burlesque.

Located in Dundas near Clarence, Lavish is known as a safe space for LGBTQ+ clients.

The club has applied to transfer an existing adult live entertainment license to the Lavish location at 238 Dundas St. near Clarence.

But Fyfe-Millar worries that if such a permit were attached to 238 Dundas St., it would open the way for more traditional strip clubs to be allowed there in the event of a future change of ownership.

“They asked us to treat it differently, and we couldn’t,” Fyfe-Milar said. “At the end of the day, it’s an adult entertainment license. If Lavish goes out of business, we now have a license in a brick-and-mortar store that can now be an adult entertainment facility.”

Kelly Roy made the reservation for Lavish and was interviewed by CBC News in response to comments from owner Zoltan Harasty.

License ‘gives us freedom’

Roy said the licensing change will allow Lavish to put on more provocative live entertainment. In a business environment still recovering from COVID-19 restrictions and shutdowns, changes are needed to help the club continue to attract a strong following, she said.

“We used to have burlesque, but there had to be very strict limits on what we could and couldn’t do,” she told CBC News. “So this license gives us that freedom.”

Roy also said Ravish’s license relocation application had been rejected. Apply separately There is a six-door body massage room at 232 Dundas St. Roy. Roy said the application had nothing to do with Lavish. The application listed on the 232 Dundas St. application is a numbered company.

Roy, however, would not reveal who was behind the company listed in Lavish’s application, which is listed as a “Paris Club company” in filings with the city.

The Lavish app will relocate the live adult entertainment license from the now-operated Dundas Street East address. The Body Massage app at 232 Dundas St. is currently associated with 802 Exeter Rd., an existing massage parlor called Ambience Spa.

Both applications will be submitted to the city’s Community and Conservation Services Commission on Tuesday.

While he doesn’t want to speculate on other MPs’ votes, Fyfe-Millar doesn’t expect much support for either application.

Attaching two adult-themed business licenses to an address on a block that already had a strip club would cause trouble, he said.

“You end up with organizations in the same industry that are very competitive with each other to fill that void,” he said. “Having them go right across the street…wouldn’t create a healthy one in that neighborhood. surroundings.”

Fyfe-Millar also questioned whether such a permit would be required to host adult-themed entertainment in Lavish to avoid enforcement action by city bylaw officers.

The city has received letters from businesses and residents opposing the move to Dundas Square for the two permits, including one from the Centre for Battered Women in London.

“Demand for paid sex is fueling the growth in trafficking and exploitation of our most vulnerable,” wrote executive director Jennifer Dunn.
