More than 25 years ago, the American Jewish Committee (AJC) had a bold vision for the Middle East, a Middle East where Israel lives in peace with its Arab neighbors. AJC has been working towards this vision for decades.
Since 1994, the AJC has made numerous visits to the region to share information, gain and disseminate views, and build trust to advance our vision for regional peace. AJC travels from capital to capital, engaging in in-depth consultations with government officials, security authorities, business executives, interfaith leaders, policy analysts, educators, and the media—opening doors, dispelling misunderstandings, and encouraging engagement with Israel and the Jewish more contact with the world.
Today, six countries in the region have peace agreements or normalization agreements with Israel, with four in 2020 alone. AJC believes more opportunities lie ahead.
Against this backdrop, we opened AJC Abu Dhabi: Sidney Lerner Centre for Arab-Jewish Understanding in 2021. Through our field presence, AJC builds on decades of work.
AJC Abu Dhabi supports the further development of the Abraham Accords and strengthens the relationship between Israel and Arab countries; advances Arab-Jewish and Muslim-Jewish dialogue; works to combat regional anti-Semitism and extremism; and works with Jewish communities in the Middle East to Protect, celebrate and revitalize Jewish life.
