The UAE Digital Government has confirmed that if workers’ wages are not released within 15 days of the due date, payment is considered delayed unless the work contract stipulates a shorter period.
According to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE), employers are required to pay workers on time as contractually agreed and should comply with the Wage Protection System (WPS) aimed at increasing worker productivity and ensuring stability, the authority said. relations between the two parties.

Employers’ commitment to pay wages in accordance with legislation regulating industrial relations goes a long way toward creating a balanced relationship between the two parties, officials said.
Mohsen Al Nassi, MOHRE’s Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Inspections, earlier explained that the mechanism of the WPS enables employers to smoothly discharge their obligations to workers through a strategic partnership with the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates.
He added that being paid on time is an important right for workers that employers must commit to.
“Disciplinary action is taken against agencies that fail to address violations as required. These actions are determined based on the length of delay, the size of the agency, and the number and percentage of unpaid workers,” the official said.
Under MOHRE, companies can be penalized for not paying wages on time. Entering incorrect data in the WPS to evade or circumvent a fine of Dh5,000 per worker, up to a maximum of Dh50,000. Failure to pay by WPS on the due date will result in a fine of AED 1,000 per employee.
Al Nassi praised employers for their commitment to paying wages as required, explaining that this commitment reaffirmed their positive impact on compliance with the law and its impact on businesses, especially in terms of productivity.
Employers can check the status of the business – including the number and percentage of unpaid workers, and the facility’s requirements in this regard – through the MOHRE app on Apple Store Online and Google Play.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emirates organizes workshops and seminars to raise awareness of labour market legislation, including legislation related to WPS.
