Taipei (Taiwan News) — Yuyuan-chi, the second daughter of Taiwanese entertainer and legislator Yu Tian, died on Sunday (August 21) after an eight-year battle with rectal cancer. She is 39 years old.
Yu Tian confirmed her daughter’s death on Sunday, saying her condition suddenly deteriorated on Sunday.
The family was trying to give Yu Yuanqi emergency life-saving treatment, but she signed a DNR (no resuscitation) agreement, CNAs report. Yu Tian said that her daughter has been fighting cancer for so many years, and now that she has passed away, she doesn’t have to suffer anymore.
Yu Yuanchi was diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer in 2014 and received 12 rounds of chemotherapy. After the diagnosis, he got married in 2017, and gave birth to a daughter and a son in 2017 and 2019, respectively. However, as she reveled in the joy of giving birth to her second child, she relapsed, with the cancer spreading to her liver and lungs.
Yu Tian once told the media that her daughter coughed for four or five months when she was pregnant with her son, and the family felt that something was wrong. However, Yu Yuanqi was reluctant to take X-rays during pregnancy for fear of hurting the fetus.
So, Yu Yuanqi took an X-ray immediately after giving birth to her son, and the result broke the family’s heart, Yu Tian said.
According to media reports, the Yu family accompanies Yu Yuanqi every step of the way in the fight against cancer, and she has gone through multiple rounds of chemotherapy and new clinical trials. Sometimes her condition is fine, but sometimes it gets worse.
Although she had to rely on morphine and painkillers for pain relief, she was always active and helped raise money for poor cancer patients, according to CNA.
