Abu Dhabi Police has issued 6,100 “emergency alert” messages a day on social media, warning motorists of bad weather and other road conditions for the first six months of 2022.
The information is disseminated through the force’s various social media platforms and smart apps, alerting drivers to erratic weather conditions such as rain, fog, sand and dust, as well as accidents and traffic congestion, so that they can drive carefully and avoid accidents.
The warning message called on road users to “exercise vigilance and caution”, with a ready team working around the clock to enhance road safety.
An online survey conducted by the Abu Dhabi Police earlier this year showed that 92% of road users confirmed they benefited from “emergency alert” messages issued by the police through its smart app and social networking sites. Alert messages serve as a proactive measure to inform drivers of emergencies and traffic conditions on various roads, including highways across the emirate.
The information, which was disseminated through social media and the Abu Dhabi Police smart app, was designed to alert motorists on highways and other roads to be careful during heavy fog, unstable weather and accidents that could lead to traffic jams, officials said.
